I received my new Nikkor 50mm/1.4 in the mail today. It’s a beautiful thing.

This was taken in room light with the lens wide open. Now I can actually take Portraits and not just snapshots.

Hiccups

A transcript of a conversation earlier today between Katra and Kyle:

Kyle: I gotted hiccups, and they’re gone.
Katra: How did you get rid of them?
Kyle: I got scareded from the cat!
Katra: How?
Kyle: The cat. I was, and the the cat – and the cat started running like THAT! And it scareded me. And I had hiccups, but the cat scareded them away when he was running.

Bismick

Ian has invented the word “Bismick” and uses it in enough situations that we have had no idea what it meant… until now.

He was playing with a finger drawing program on my phone, and drew the picture you see here. When I asked him what the picture was, he told me it was a Bismick. So here you have it: the first known artist’s conception of a Bismick.

More Than Meets the Eye

Shooting for Transformers 3 is taking place in the street across the river from my building this week. The street itself looks like a war zone, with tons of rubble, smashed cars, and a burned out Vienna Beef street vendor cart. The crane with the blue box in the center of the last photo is the center of the action right now. They put a guy up on the box, raise it in the air, then he flips off while sparks fly out of the box. It looks really cheesy – makes you appreciate how much work goes into these movies post-shooting.

We’re in Naperville today doing a little shopping, and we stopped to have lunch at Noodles & Co. Ian just told us he wanted chachup (Ianese for ketchup) and reached for this bottle. No, Ian, that is most definitely NOT chachup.

The Tooth Fairy pays a visit

Today Kyle lost his first tooth. He came to see me in my office, and while he was talking I thought I noticed something in his mouth. I asked him to smile for me, and sure enough a tooth was missing! Problem was, we didn’t know where it was! Katra and I proceeded to search the house until she found it at last, on the floor in the middle of Kyle’s room.

Later that night, Katra sewed a tooth fairy pillow for Kyle, which he proudly placed under his pillow in his bed. In the morning his tooth was gone, but there were 10 gold coins from the tooth fairy!
