Today was Kyle’s first day of Kindergarten. It was a short day, giving the kids a chance to get used to their new school while the teachers and staff gave a presentation to the parents. In the presentation they described the teaching program and tried to reassure the parents that their kids would be just fine (I got the impression they were more worried about the parents then they were about the kids).
While we listened to the presentation, Kyle went with the other kids to see his new classroom and meet his teacher. When we went back to meet him, the kids were all sitting around listening to one of the teachers read a book. We prepared all of Kyle’s supplies, talked to some of the parents and teachers, then headed out for a celebratory lunch.
We dropped Ian off at the local day care for the morning. We had never left him at a day care before, but when we stepped into the room he immediately ran over and started playing with this truck, and we knew he would be just fine. While he was there he ate a huge amount of food, played with his new friends, and when we arrived back to pick him up, he was fast asleep on his cot.
Tomorrow (Friday) is Kyle’s first full day of Kindergarten. He is in the regular Kindergarten class with the other kids in the morning, then goes off to the diagnostic class for the afternoon. It’s hard to believe he’s already five years old.
