Kyle’s Builtin: Installation begins

After Katra and I repainted Kyle’s room this week, today I began the installation of Kyle’s builtin with the bench. I cut back the carpet, installed the two base cabinets, attached the face frame, then scribed the top to the wall and attached it.

The base cabinets tipped up on their backs to expose the ducting underneath for the furnace vent. The single floor vent is diverted to two vertical vents in the front face of the bench.

The bench, face frame and seat all installed. All that remains for this piece is to install a cove under the lip of the seat and install the vent covers.

Next up is the narrow bookshelf that goes on top of the bench in the right corner, where the unpainted wall section is visible in the photos above.
